Susie Schub, Caring Capital
Susie Schub founded Caring Capital™ to ignite employee engagement through charitable teambuilding. Since 2009, Susie and her team of professional teaching artists have empowered 35,000 employees nationwide to function better as teams by making gifts for neighbors in need. Such clients as American Express, Capital One, Kenneth Cole, New York Life, Novartis, Pepsi, Sanofi, Suburban Propane, Verizon, and Wyndham Worldwide have made and donated furniture, bedding, toys and more to 114,000 children, families, service members, and seniors at risk worldwide.
Susie’s journey began when she launched her first business, The Children’s Cultural Arts Program, to introduce preschoolers to the arts. Her concept - introducing youngsters to performing and visual artists, then turning them into budding artists themselves – electrified young families. To include children at risk in her workshops, Susie collected donations from Morristown retailers, then won corporate and foundation grants. As her staff and funding grew, Susie expanded her reach, running workshops at domestic violence shelters, pediatric hospitals and low-income preschools, always to empower and uplift children at risk.
The economic downturn in 2008 dramatically increased demands on the social service agencies with which Susie worked. Determined to grow the army of people willing to pitch in, she turned to the corporate sector. Caring Capital began when Susie invited a banker friend to test her new concept: choose a nonprofit, then bring his employees to that site to make gifts for some of its clients. When employees presented their hand-made mosaic-inlaid coffee tables to families ready to leave the shelter, emotions ran high. At that moment, and at hundreds of Caring Capital programs since, Susie knew she had tapped a powerful truth – giving employees a chance to help others actually helps employees and their companies.
Susie’s driving passion for service infuses every partnership she forms. Whether shaping an event for 50 or 500 employees, she blends her vision for social impact with exacting standards for program excellence. Her collaborative approach turns HR challenges into employee engagement successes, advancing both collegiality and the common good.
